Bury Road Garage
Star apprentice helps Radcliffe garage win prestigious
contract with Unipart
Bury Road Garage in Radcliffe, north Manchester has won a
prestigious Car Care Centre contract with Unipart and its star
apprentice played no small part in getting it. According to garage
owner Mark Hallows: 'Unipart is very strict in their selection
criteria and one aspect they are particularly keen on is the
qualifications held by our mechanics. My right hand man Ben Morris
has just completed his Advanced Apprenticeship in Light Motor
Vehicle Repair and Maintenance spending 1 day a week at Mantra
Learning in Middleton. He passed with flying colours and this
certainly gave our bid the edge.'
Ben Morris 19 from Radcliffe started his apprenticeship with
Bury Road Garage in May 2008 after leaving school without any
qualifications. He has always been passionate about cars and was
keen to learn a trade in the automotive industry. His lack of
academic achievement at school was overcome when he started to
learn practical skills in a subject he loves. Three years on and
Ben is a fully qualified mechanic and is keen to further his career
by taking an MOT testing course.
For boss Mark growing your own talent is undoubtedly the way to
go and he has just started another apprentice to follow in Ben's
shoes. 'Reputation is everything in this game. I need people
working for me who I can rely on to do it right first time. With an
apprentice you get to teach them step by step what to do and what
not to do, so you always end up with satisfied customers.'
Bury Road customers are more than satisfied with the quality of
work and have voted the garage the North West's number 2 in the
Golden Garages Award for two years running. It is also ranked as
one of the top 50 garages in the country.
