Joe (real name Junior) joined Mantra years ago to do his level 2 HGV Technician course. He then progressed onto HGV level 3, meeting his Training Advisor every month to look at how he was meeting his targets and to set new targets for both the classroom on day release and in the workplace.
‘It has benefited me a lot, and progressing onto a level 3 qualification I am now fully competent. It’s increased my wages for starters and I would recommend anyone out their to pursue this course.’
The maths, English and IT courses re-educate you because you do forget and these 3 topics are very beneficial in the HGV sector. With advancement in technology these days the technician needs to be IT conversant as well as computer literate, as there are a lot of things to calculate in this role.
The benefit to attending day release is great for those who can’t do full time in a learning centre and the four days in the workplace allow you to practise what you learn and show your supervisor or manager. It helps you achieve the qualification very effectively.
‘My career aspirations have not ended here, they have opened a new window. I’m thinking of pursuing an arctic certification as well as an auto electrical course which is quite esential these days, especially in our business, and then possibly progress to a supervisor or workshop manager.
I would 110% recommend anyone to Mantra, especially those with no qualification and feel they are too old to start any course. I think Mantra is the best place for adult education, they are really helpful.
When I started years ago, none of the businesses out there would welcome me for an interview but soon after gaining this qualification and putting my CV on websites, I get plenty phone calls per day inviting me for interview.’
Gaining the level 3 qualification has already provided Joe with a wage increase, this is great news. Average earnings for a HGV technician are £26,000, increasing to as high as £35-£40,000 per annum. Well done Joe.
