The course
A one day training session that will give the learner knowledge
of how to check tyre wear, damage and misuse. They will also gain
practical knowledge of how to replace a tyre, repair a puncture and
balance a wheel. Training will be split between the class room and
the workshop.
Benefits to employer and employee
As a competent tyre fitter the learner will be able to provide
this service to customers without supervision.
Outcomes
Upon successful completion of all the elements of the training
day the learner will have demonstrated their competence at changing
a tyre, repairing a puncture and balancing a steel and an alloy
wheel.
Course content
- Tyre sizes, profiles, load and speed ratings
- Working knowledge of a tyre machine
- Working knowledge of a wheel balancer
- Changing a tyre
- Repairing a puncture
- Balancing a steel and an alloy wheel
Assessment
Learners will gain an IMI Awards Level 2 Skills in Inspection,
Repair and Replacement of High Performance Light Vehicle Tyres (QCF
unit value is 4 credits).
