The course
This one hour HGV Driver Assessment is designed to benchmark
fuel efficiency and identify poor driving behaviour that could lead
to excessive vehicle wear and tear or might lead to an accident.
The driver will complete a standard route in a telematics equiped
vehicle under the observation of a qualified Mantra LGV
instructor.
Benefits to employer and employee
Driver Assessments carried out at Mantra show a fuel efficiency
difference between the best and worst drivers of over 4 mpg. If
your drivers could achieve just a 1 mpg improvement in fuel
consumption this could equate to a financial saving of over £4,000
per driver, per year based on 85,000 miles annual mileage.
Additional savings can be obtained through reduced vehicle
maintenance costs.
Outcomes
The driver and their employer will receive a written assessment
report containing observations on driving style together with any
recommendations for corrective training. It will include a
telematics report showing the driver's fuel consumption and how
they rate compared with the best and worst drivers who have
undertaken the route.

The driver will be assessed against the following criteria:
- Fuel consumption
- Safe handling and defensive driving
- Minimising wear and tear
- Hazard perception
- Daily walk around checks
- Road sense and lane discipline
- Manoeuvring
- Observing speed limits and traffic regulations
