The Certificate of Professional Competence in Road Haulage is a level 3 qualification that gives the learner the skill set to become a fully qualified transport manager. It teaches best practice in transport operations as well as giving the learner a detailed knowledge of the rules and regulations applicable to road haulage in the UK and Europe.
The requirement for goods vehicle operators to show evidence of professional competence is contained in the Goods Vehicles Act 1995. Organisations operating goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight require an Operator's Licence. In order to apply for an O-licence the licence holder must hold or have access to someone who holds a valid Certificate of Professional Competence in Road Haulage (CPC) qualification.
Benefits to the employer and the learner
Learners will develop their knowledge of road haulage laws, finance and road safety, helping to ensure a safe practice.
Employers will be complying with the Goods Vehicle Operators' Regulations 1997, as well as improving the professionalism and performance of their business.
On successful completion learners will receive a Certificate of Professional Competence. This means that they can now apply for a Goods Vehicle Operator's Licence.
The new CPC in Road Haulage consists of a single multiple choice assessment and a single case study assessment. Both elements will test national and international knowledge/application. So, to achieve a new International CPC, candidates will only need to take two units.
