Brush up Route

A short course aimed at refreshing your English skills at Level 1 or Level 2 and leading directly to an Adult Literacy qualification at either Level 1 or 2.

This course will be suited to people who’s Initial Assessment shows generally strong Literacy skills at either Level 1 or 2.

Brush up route courses generally take between 7 – 12 hours to complete, including taking an exam.

Skills Route

Where your Literacy Initial Assessment shows that you need to spend a little more time developing particular areas of English, your tutor will select course aimed at your specific learning needs. These short courses include:

• Writing
• Grammar
• Punctuation
• Reading
• Speaking
• Spelling
• Literacy Life Skills

Each skills course takes between 3 -10 hours to complete. Your tutor will discuss with you exactly which skills courses you need to follow.

After completing relevant skills courses your tutor will help you prepare for taking an nationally recognised qualification after which you will be ready for taking an exam in Adult Literacy and gaining a nationally recognised qualification.

Initial Assessment

All learners complete an initial assessment at the beginning of the programme. This enables us to determine the correct pace for your learning and helps us establish your most effective learning style.

Assessment Strategy

Tutors will review your progress at regular intervals. For learners following one of our intensive ‘in centre’ courses this will be daily. For those following skills for life courses alongside a job review intervals may be 3 -4 weeks, more frequently if you require additional support. Which ever style suits you tutors will be there to support you as required.

Examination is generally through an online test.

Funding

Skills for Life courses at Entry Level or Level 1 and 2 are fully funded which means they are free of charge.
