Distinction pass for Callum at Global Football Company

Distinction pass for Callum

When Callum Scrimgeour left school, like most young people he went to college and after a year of studying decided he wanted to take a step into the world-of-work through an apprenticeship. Callum describes himself as a "sporty person" and someone who "likes to be practical", so when he was searching for an apprenticeship he was looking for something to match his interests.

A step into the unknown

A Supply Chain Logistics Apprenticeship at Global Football Company caught Callum's eye and after successfully completing the application process with Mantra Learning, he started his apprenticeship journey. Callum stated, "When I saw the apprenticeship vacancy online, I didn't know what logistics was, but when I read the description and carried out some research it sounded like something I thought I would enjoy, so I applied".

Progression

Fast forward fifteen months and Callum has successfully completed his supply chain apprenticeship standard to a distinction standard, gained his FLT license, secured himself a permanent job and got himself a pay rise with Global Football Company. Callum went on to say, "I really enjoyed the apprenticeship and had great support from my employer and from Ian (Mantra Learning, Development Coordinator). When I first started the apprenticeship I didn't know what to expect and didn't know anyone. Being young its a fear factor and you've just got to challenge yourself; I'm 19 now but I've grown up a lot since working here, matured and enjoy being in a work environment."

Technology

Logistics is no exception when it comes to technology. The industry is at the forefront of technology development and creating a huge demand for people to have digital skills. Being young and what some would refer to as a "Gen-Z", Callum is familiar with technology and possesses strong digital skills, however, he went on to say, "when you first use the devices and technologies within the job its a challenge, as I'd never used them before, but being from a generation brought up with technology I quickly grasped it and can now support others."

The future

Callum concluded by saying he is really enjoying his role at Global Football Company and as the business grows wants to be part be of it. He wants to encourage more young people to consider a career in logistics as he sees this as an industry that can open up many doors for you.
