LGV Fuel Efficient Driving

LGV Fuel Efficient Driving

With the ever-growing demand and pressure to consider ‘green’ issues and lessen our carbon footprint, it has never been as important to consider practical ways to reduce fuel consumption.

Fuel efficient drivers has benefits such as:

  • Lower costs
  • Improved profit margins
  • Reduced emissions
  • Improved environmental performance

Here are 5 ways for LGV Drivers to increase Fuel Efficient Driving and Safe Loading:

  1. Be aware of your speed: High speed has a drastic effect on fuel consumption. On average, by driving an LGV at 50mph instead of 56mph, you can reduce its fuel consumption by up to 22%.
  2. Load Your Vehicle Properly: Overloading and the poor positioning of a load can have a detrimental effect on fuel consumption.
  3. Be Aware of Aerodynamics: Any protrusions will cause drag which will use extra fuel. Some vehicles have built in aerodynamic attachments which you should ensure are correctly adjusted. When such aids are correctly used, they can save up to 15% on fuel consumption.
  4. Plan Your Routes: Wherever possible you should think about fuel efficiency when planning your route.
  5. Utilise Cruise Control: To ensure maximum fuel efficiency benefits from cruise control, always plan on the road and be aware of what’s behind you so you can change lanes safely.

The Job Gym offers FREE LGV programmes, which teach drivers how to use fuel efficiently. As well as drivers with work skills courses, designed to help you reach your full potential.
