Supporting your business to recover and nurturing talent

Covid-19 and uncertainty go hand-in-hand, but what needs to be certain is how businesses will recover from the coronavirus pandemic and what the future looks like for our young people.

As the government is set to announce plans to support businesses and incentivise them in recruiting and developing apprentices, there is light at the end of the tunnel for young people. At Mantra Learning, we are about to enter our busiest recruitment period of the year; as school and college leavers will be applying for our listed vacancies and looking to enrol on our Pathway to Apprenticeship programme over the next few weeks.

The logistics and motor vehicle industry have been two key-worker sectors throughout the pandemic, which has created many new jobs from LGV Driving, Transport Planning, Recovery, and Warehouse Operations. Businesses we work with have maintained their recruitment of apprentices, and as we've seen the sectors gain public recognition in the last few months, these apprenticeships have become most in demand.

As we enter the summer period where school and college leavers are looking for an opportunity to kick-start their career, the most common question we are being asked by young people, parents and teachers are;

"Will there be apprenticeship opportunities available after the Coronavirus pandemic?"

With over 30 live vacancies, our answer to that question is yes, but does that 30 include your business? Are you aware of the benefits an apprentice can bring to your business and how they can help you to recover beyond the pandemic?

For employers, there is no better time to be recruiting your next apprentice, and with our support, we can build your talent pipeline.

Darren Ford, Managing Director at Moston Janitorial Supplies in Manchester has seen his business grow from strength-to-strength through working with us and recruiting apprentices, here's what he had to say...

Supporting your business

Getting the right talent is the biggest challenge for any business when recruiting an apprentice, working with ourselves and recruiting through our Pathway to Apprenticeship programme, which has a progression rate of 80% on to an apprenticeship, more and more employers are choosing this model to recruit young people. The Pathway team works with employers to find their right fit, giving the young person and the employer the opportunity to carry out a trial work period before the apprenticeship starts.

The Business Improvement Consultants here at Mantra Learning work with you and your business to plan the apprentice's learning journey so that they can become skilled and add value to your business. Our team answers all of your queries and provide support to access grants and understand payroll requirements for an apprentice.

For more information on the apprenticeships, we currently deliver at Mantra Learning, visit the apprenticeship page of our website - apprenticeships

Equipping young people for the world of work

The Pathway to Apprenticeship programme is government-funded, providing a young person with a traineeship route, to progress on to an apprenticeship with an employer, which includes:

  • 6-8 weeks of virtual and practical sector-specific training (following social distancing guidelines)
  • Functional skills tuition
  • Pastoral support and mentoring
  • Employer talent matching
  • 4-6 weeks of industry-specific placement training
  • Financial support (bursary payments, PPE, lunch and refreshments when in the centre)

Every young person who enrols on the Pathway programme this summer will be provided with an individual learning plan to support their needs. The mentoring and guidance provided by our team helps them to fully understand the demand and the requirements to succeed within the logistics and motor vehicle working environments; which gives them to skills, knowledge and behaviours to be successful in progressing on to an apprenticeship.
