MOT Tester CPD and Annual Assessment
As part of their aim to modernise the MOT scheme, DVSA have changed the way MOT training is carried out. From April 2016, DVSA has replaced the suspended MOT tester refresher course with Continuing Professional Development (CPD). The annual CPD is mandatory for every MOT tester in the country and must be completed before 31st March 2022.
The topics to be covered in 2022 are:
New Technology:
Lighting systems o Electric, hybrid and hydrogen o Health & Safety relating to alternative fuel vehicles o Carbon fibre components o ‘Fly by wire’ steering systems.
MOT Testing Requirements:
o VE powers and procedures o Training logs o Equipment failure, including linked equipment o Test equipment and operating instructions o Recording of vehicle details o PRS o Emissions and smoke test (BET test procedures, smoke test temperature etc) o Major – Minor – Dangerous o Chassis types o How to deal with technical enquiries.
Corrosion and standards of repair:
o Prescribed areas o Chassis types o Suitable materials o Bonded repairs o Repairs to steel and alloy wheels o Carbon fibre components o Brake pipes.
