You will learn how to diagnose, test and repair a range of vehicles from trucks to buses, including mechanical and electrical repairs. You will earn-whilst-you-learn, spending 80% of your time on the job! The other 20% will be spent off the job, allowing you to gain support from our industry-trained mentors, who will support your style of learning. 

You will cover areas such as routine vehicle maintenance, removal and replacement of vehicle units and components and diagnosis and rectification of vehicle faults. They learn about:

• Health & Safety and positive working relationships
• Routine maintenance
• Engine units and components
• Auxiliary electrical units and components
• Commercial vehicle chassis units and components
• Pre and post work vehicle inspections

Your learning will be accredited by The Institute of the Motor Industry, providing you with the guidance to gain the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to be progress through your apprenticeship journey.

A full level 3 IMI Light Motor Vehicle standard will take you 3 years to complete. 

On completion of your apprenticeship and with experience there are progression opportunities for HGV Technicians to become:

• MOT Testers
• MOT Managers
• HGV Drivers 

With further experience and skills, you could progress on to become a Senior Technician, Workshop Manager or even become self employed and earn an average salary of £40,000 per year.
